Name: Ruby Hoshino Door: Door Pass (Submissive) Canon: Oshi no Ko Canon Point: Chapter 160, during the Tokyo Dome concert. Age: 18 Appearance: Here History: Here Personality: Positive Trait: Loyalty Ruby is nothing if not loyal. When she decides to love and trust someone, she does it with all of her heart and she has an unwavering loyalty to them. The most obvious examples of this are Ai Hoshino and Gorou Amamiya. She self-describes them as her lights in the darkness, essentially, and they give her many reasons to keep on living. Because of this, she is their biggest fan and supporter through the good times and the bad. In the form of Ai, this means that she's her greatest fan... and then upon Ruby's reincarnation, she tries to be the best daughter a person could ask for. In the form of Gorou, a resident doctor that took it upon himself to keep a lonely girl company while she was dying, she latches onto him. Even when she eventually dies and then reincarnates as Ruby, she tries to follow up on him in her new life, unaware that he had been murdered. She even goes as far as using being an idol as a way to search for her beloved doctor, hoping he'll show up eventually. This carries onto her eventual quest for revenge, because when she learns that her beloved doctor was murdered and that it was connected to the death of her mother, Ai, she decides it's time to try to find a way to avenge them, even if it hurts her. And it does, because she doesn't actually like lying or being manipulative and it causes all kinds of distress for her to behave in such a negative way... but she does it because of her loyalty to Ai and Gorou. This eventually chills out a bit when she realizes that Gorou is her twin brother in this new life, but the fact remains that her loyalty to the people she loves is one of the most important factors in her life. Even with relationships that aren't quite as close, though, she remains a loyal friend that gets hurt when it's not returned. She's willing to do what it takes to save Kana from a scandal, and while that hurts her relationship with her brother (as this is before she realized he was her beloved doctor) for a time, she doesn't regret saving Kana from her scandal. When Kana forces her into method acting during the Movie arc, she's unbelievably hurt because she doesn't want to think that Kana could resent her even a little even if it helps her with the role of her character. Negative Trait: Impulsiveness As a person, Ruby is generally very impulsive and is not one to think before she speaks or she does something. Sometimes this comes in the form of her assuming the worst of others (though this is often used comically). She's quick to scold her brother for being late, assuming the worst or that he's just being a dumb boy, and oftentimes she has to be stopped from doing something that could easily ruin her image as an idol because she doesn't stop to think about what her actions could imply to other people, especially as she gains fame within the entertainment industry. Even in her past life, she was known to try to escape the hospital that she was housed in so that she could go see her favorite idol. Did it matter if it was a long trip to the nearest train station and her only transportation was her wheelchair? No. It didn't. But she wanted to try! When Ruby wants to do something, she will go after it with everything in her without thinking about the consequences her actions could lead to. Chasing after a crow that made her mad is what lead to her finding her dearest doctor's dead body, after all. With that said, in her daily life, it's usually limited to her buying things, visiting places she wants to, or giving her brother hell in the way a little sister terrorizes their siblings. While her impulsivity is often limited to cheerier, sillier things a girl her age would often do, that doesn't mean that she's entirely innocent. There is a period of time where Ruby starts to rapidly rise within the entertainment industry, quickly becoming famous, and that's because she wants to find the person that's responsible for killing both her mother and her beloved doctor. She figures that better connections will help her get closer to whoever that may be, and she's more than willing to do what it takes to get to that point. If she has to use people and humiliate them along the way? Then that's something she'll have to do. It doesn't mean that she likes it! She's vocally upset that she has to do this sort of thing at one point! But she will do it and she will accept the hurt that happens because of her actions as a necessary evil. Aqua states that her actions are impulsive and dangerous, and that if she did not stop, someone would get hurt along the way because of those actions. Negative Trait: Abandonment Issues Ruby does not have a healthy idea of relationships, unfortunately. Her first life as Sarina did not set her up for success in this regard, as her original family abandoned her when they found out that she was dying. Sarina's mother only wanted a healthy child, not one that was terminally ill, and thus tossed her daughter off to some rural hospital in the middle of nowhere so that she would be out of sight. She never got any visitors, and when she did, it was only for a short time and all she'd get was a quick and offhanded "I love you" before her parents disappeared. Because she was a dying child at the time, this led to her doing whatever it took to get people to stay with her and love her. She never complained, she never caused trouble, and she was always an exemplary patient... and when she was reincarnated, much of this behavior carried forward into how she behaved with her Ai and her adopted mother, Miyako. More than anything else in the world, Ruby wants to be loved, and she will do whatever it takes to get the people that she loves to stay in her life. For example, finding out that her doctor from her previous life was dead utterly broke her and led to her doing less-than-good behavior. It stung because she had been living her life in the hopes that maybe the doctor would come out of hiding so that they could meet again, doing her best to be noticeable and to be the perfect idol. She will do whatever it takes to not be abandoned by others, though, which is why the behavior of her past life still mostly carries forward. Miyako even states that her daughter - Ruby - is not a complainer and never seems to have anything wrong. This is because Ruby is doing her best to not give people a reason to leave her, even if she isn't a pushover. This is also why as a general rule, she's a bright, cheerful, fairly optimistic seeming person that gels easily with the people around her until something happens that absolutely traumatizes her into making other decisions. Negative Trait: Codependency While Ruby's intense loyalty is a great trait overall, when paired with her abandonment issues, it can lead to codependency. This is most apparent in her relationship with Gorou Amamiya, her doctor in a previous life. When Ruby originally knew him, he was just a resident that took the time to give her a visitor when no one else would bother. They grew close because of this, and because of their mutual love of Ai Hoshino... and eventually, he told her that when she turned sixteen, he would marry her. This was the start of an obsession, and she would cling to him! Even in death, since her parents didn't even bother to show up when she died. Starting from her childhood as Ruby, she spent an incredible amount of time searching for the man that she loved in her previous life, not caring about the age gap. He was missing, and that worried her. It's why she became an idol, too... mostly because she was hoping that if she were famous enough, he'd suddenly show up so they could be together. The actual details on how it would happen didn't matter to her. Finding out that her brother was actually the doctor was a great bandaid solution to her issues because she at least knew that he was there and alive! Even if he was her twin. Powers and Abilities: She can sing and dance and has an incredible amount of charisma. Otherwise, totally normal. Inventory: » Her phone, containing all of the files downloaded onto it. » Framed family photo of her, her twin brother Aqua, and their mother, Ai. » A keychain that says something like “Ai’s greatest fan!!” Samples: here, she goes by lyra in this game due to a game mechanic but that changes nothing of her personality here & here, as the first sample is very much comment spam. |
REVISIONS
Because of Ruby's intense loyalty, as well as her codependent nature, her behavior can often be considered self-destructive. During the chapter where she finds out that her brother is the doctor that she so dearly loved in her past life, Ruby finally admits that many of her more cruel actions after she found his dead body caused her a great deal of pain. She had been trying to channel Ai's habits to become popular, and while effective, often lead to a great deal of PTSD because she'd see Ai's murderer in the crowd and there would be an expectation that something similar could happen to her.
Along with that, Ruby has a tendency to seek out the things that hurt her. This is shown when she dons a disguise and goes to spy on her family from her past life. When she sees her old mother happy, smiling with two kids that were born after she died, it hurts her because she realizes that she never saw her mother smile like that for her or be that happy. In this case, she was desperate to find some kind of motherly love, even if it was from a parent that wouldn't even know who she was now. She wasn't thinking about how much it'd actually hurt her. She has her wants - like being able to just be happy on stage and being an idol in her own right - but when coupled with things like her loyalty, codependency, and impulsiveness... she's far more likely to override those wants and needs.
All of this is purely because she thinks she can get something better if she does these things, but it never works out for her in the end because they aren't her actual true wants and needs. It is because of this that Ruby is, unfortunately, a self-destructive person that sometimes needs someone (who is, in many cases, Aqua) to help guide her back to a reasonable situation and remind her of what she has on her own, rather than relying on the people of the past to help her get to where she wants to be in life.
