but that's definitely a monster roar in the distance]

[um, nope, getting her by the collar and another hand over her mouth, dragging her to the back office]

[thankfully her yelp gets muffled by the hand, her basket of food abandoned as she gets pulled into the back office.

but when they're safe in the back office with the door closed she can't help but hiss:]

You jinxed it!

[pushing her under a desk, hand going on her mouth again]

Shh.

[getting his phone out]

[There's an aggressive tapping on the glass outside, but she's letting him push her under the desk.

he's getting dragged with, though, because she's not letting go of him.]

[not fighting it since fighting would mean more noise than he cares for, but keeping a solid bead on his phone, ready to dial]

[she's got her phone out too, with kazuha as her speed dial, but:

the door to the office creaks up and she can't help but draw in a sharp breath.]

[connecting, muting the other person (it's cecelia), and putting the phone down]

[Her grip on him is probably painful with how her fingers are digging into him, but. It's fine.

The monster is now on the other side of the desk, though, sniffing furiously.]

[has no awareness, just staying frozen and caged around ruby . . . but removing silence and going to give a quick swipe at his phone to send it rocketing towards the door and into the store. lots of noise to follow]

[the monster's head snaps up and over, before chasing after the phone with a crash and a roar, at least it's sufficiently distracted now? nice]

[ The phone and the monster stop in midair, held in place by some unseen force. It roars again, writhing and twisting in a vain attempt to turn back to their hiding place. The deliciously squishy humans are close! It can smell them! In spite of its scrambling, the monster is extracted from the office, like a band-aid getting ripped off of an arm. The kids would say it was "yote."

A single gunshot rings out, and the roaring stops. Outside, the muted click of high heels on pavement grows distant.

The phone floats closer to their hiding place and drops to the floor. Aqua has one new text:
All done~🎵 ]

well.

that was wild, and also really cool, nts thank her or have aqua thank her]

Aqua, let's get out of here.

[already standing up, hand on Ruby's wrist and pulling her up. don't have to tell him twice]

[On their way out she's going to grab at least one of their baskets so they don't have to head back out for awhile ok]

[o-onigiri? but going to keep tugging her along until they get to his room (because it's closer) and locking the door]

We're waiting until Nana says something.

[onigiri!!! and some sandos. and a lot of sweets. she grabbed hers ok.]

... At least we got some supplies.

Yeah. And I've earned an hour of peace now.

[it's fine she expected it]

You definitely jinxed it, though, so why should I give you an hour of peace?

Because we were almost attacked! Isn't that enough excitement for you?

More like terror! I'm going to have nightmares about it!

How do you know? It was an actual monster that probably would've tried to eat us like the velociraptors in Jurassic Park!
